Fetal Growth
Monitoring Estimated Fetal Weight (EFW) and developmental trends.
Amniotic Fluid
Evaluating AFI to ensure an optimal intrauterine environment.
Presentation
Confirming baby's position (Head down, Breech, or Transverse).
Monitoring Your Baby's Wellbeing
The Third Trimester Wellbeing Scan, also known as the Growth Scan, is an important ultrasound examination typically performed between 28 and 32 weeks of pregnancy. This scan focuses on assessing the baby’s growth, position, and overall wellbeing, while also evaluating the health of the placenta and the amount of amniotic fluid surrounding the baby.
As pregnancy progresses into the final trimester, ensuring that the baby is growing appropriately and receiving adequate nourishment becomes essential. The growth scan provides valuable clinical information that helps doctors plan the safest and healthiest path toward delivery.
Key Measurements
Estimated Fetal Weight (EFW)
Using precise biometric measurements—such as head circumference, abdominal circumference, and femur length—the ultrasound system calculates the baby’s approximate weight. This helps assess whether the baby is growing normally and identifies conditions like growth restriction or excessive growth.
Amniotic Fluid Volume Index (AFI)
Amniotic fluid cushions the baby and supports development. During the wellbeing scan, the AFI is measured to ensure fluid levels are within the normal range, deciding if closer monitoring or intervention is needed.
Delivery Planning
Crucial insights for determining the safest timing and mode of delivery.
Placental Health
The placenta is the lifeline between mother and baby. We evaluate its position (anterior, posterior, or low-lying), structure, and maturity to ensure adequate oxygen and nutrient supply.
Fetal Presentation
Confirming whether the baby is Head down (cephalic), Breech (feet first), or Transverse (sideways). This information helps obstetricians counsel parents on delivery options.
Additional Checks
We observe fetal movements, muscle tone, heart activity, and overall posture, providing total reassurance about the baby's general wellbeing in the final stages.
